Model railroad scales

To model an environment naturally a scale is used.
1:100 means that every cm in miniature represents 100 cm in reality.

The most common scales are:
  • 0 1:43,5 - 1:48
  • HO 1:87
  • OO 1:76,2
  • N 1:148 - 1:160

Look at the below picture to see what effect scale has on the same figures in the scales N, OO and O.

The gauge is the distance between the two rails which form the track trains run on.
In the picture below you can see the difference in size between the standard gauges of O gauge, OO gauge and N gauge.
