Caledonian Railway diagram 109 16 ton twin wagon
Caledonian Railway diagram 109 16 ton twin wagon in 4 mm scale
This vehicle is based on a drawing dated in 1912, and, although it is difficult to determine precise numbers built, it is known that at least 100 wagons (50 pairs) were built that year. These vehicles were permanently coupled and would always operate as a pair carrying all forms of long or over size loads such as timber, girders, rails or tubes. Principally these vehicles would have operated a specific service ie load at a designated point and return empty to that point. The principle service area would be in the central Scottish industrial belt but these vehicles would have ranged far and wide, throughout the UK, especially carrying finished goods.
